Want to be the next CIEE Director? Apply now to bring CIEE to your university.
The Canadian Institute of Ecology and Evolution - Institut canadien d’écologie et d'évolution (CIEE-ICEE) seeks a new Director and Host University. The CIEE-ICEE is Canada’s national synthesis center for ecology, evolution and environmental sciences. The mandate of the CIEE-ICEE is to organize and fund working groups on key questions and provide training and leadership in environmental data, including through the CIEE-ICEE’s award winning Living Data Project (https://www.ciee-icee.ca/ldp.html).
We seek a researcher with strong leadership and organizational skills, experienced in synthesis science, and passionate about growing the CIEE-ICEE (including the Living Data Project). The candidate should be a tenured faculty member at a Canadian university, and their university would become the Host University for CIEE-ICEE. The Host University is responsible for providing university financial and legal services to the CIEE-ICEE Director’s office, and funding administrative support (i.e. a part-time Program Coordinator).
The Host University should be an institutional member of CIEE-ICEE, which is managed by a consortium of Canadian universities and a scientific society through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Universities that are not already parties to the MOU are welcome to join. The CIEE budget originates from membership fees and from grants obtained by the Director.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will serve as Deputy Director from November 2025 to August 2026, and then become Director in September 2026.
Please provide by 15 September 2025:
- A one-page summary of why you are interested in being Director of the CIEE-ICEE, your vision for the future of CIEE-ICEE, and details of how you intend to fund CIEE activities.
- Confirmation from your university that it is willing and able to meet the responsibilities of being a Host University (see above).
- A recent CV.
Application materials should be sent to CIEE Program Coordinator Kelly Haller ([email protected]). General inquiries can be directed to CIEE Executive Board Chair Joe Bennett ([email protected]).
